An AMERICAN CITIZEN?

It doesn’t get much more American than this; a guy wearing his USA tee shirt, polishing his hot rod at a July 4th car show. Some of the more observant readers might say “ but Tom, that’s an Anglia, a British made car that he’s polishing. But I say the Immigration Law of 1968 clearly states that if a British car is owned for by the same American citizen for 40 years than that car becomes an AmericanCar.

Well the Anglia became an AmericanCar lart year, since American citizens Mary Ann and Jr. Gamble have owned the car for 41 years. The stats on Jr.’s Anglia and Mary Ann’s Nova, as provided by Mary Ann, are shown below.

THE ANGLIA IS A 350 CHEVY , 30 OVER ANGLE PLUG HEADS.

IT HAS A 350 TURBO TRANSMISSION. 4 WHEEL POWER DISC BRAKES, VINTAGE HEAT & AIR. WE HAVE OWNED THE CAR 41 YEARS. IT HAS WON MANY AWARDS SINCE CHANGING IT OVER FROM THE DRAG STRIP TO THE STREET.

THE NOVA IS A 327 CHEVY WITH A RV CAM. IT HAS A 700R4 TRANSMISSION.

CUSTOM DOLPHIN GAUGES, AMERICAN RACING WHEELS. IT HAS WON AWARDS SEVERAL TIMES FOR BEST PAINT. IN 2010 IT WAS RUNNER UP AT THE SUPER CHEVY NATIONALS IN PIGEON FORGE,TN.

When I was taking the pictures I knew Rhonda was cute but it wasn’t until I got home and saw the pictures did I realize just how gorgeous she was. She looks so good with this beautiful 2nd Gen Camaro.

While Rhonda was cool, the owner of the Camaro was not so cool. He just about wouldn’t let us take pictures of Rhonda with his car and under no circumstances was she allowed to touch the car in any way. I ask if she could set in the seat. He reluctantly said OK but she was not allowed to put her feet inside the car (See Gallery picture 5). When we were finishing the shoot drops of unexpected rain started to fall and the owner nearly had a heart attack trying to get the Camaro back into the trailer. I guess if I had a zillion dollars tied up in a show car I wouldn’t want it out in a heavy storm. But still, even if I had a $1,000,000 SSC Tuatar super car I would let Rhonda in the driver’s seat, close the door, start the engine and drive it around the show. And if it started to rain she could turn on the windshield wipers. Rhonda Was That Cool.

MEGAN WITH A 1956 CHEVY THAT HAS A GREAT STORY — 2011 S.C.Nats.

The 1956 Chevy that Megan is posing with was bought by Dale McPherson’s dad brand new in 1956. Dale inherited the Chevy from his dad in 1972 and has it ever since. I did not get to talk to Dale about the car but it is evident from the pictures that upgrades to the car have been made through the years: power windows, power seats, speakers and lots of chrome under the hood.

Megan was at the show with her grandparents helping them run their booths. Megan was in charge of sunglasses. Megan was not 18 yet so her grandfather signed off for her to pose. My thanks to granddad. Megan was super cute and super fun to be around. Megan listed her occupation as “Dance”. We’ll just assume that means she is on her high school’s Dance Squad.

It’s a first for ACAG. We covered the same car two years in a row. It’s pretty easy to do. Michael Payne’s 1981 Z28 Camaro is just so nice. It stands out even among all the 1st and 5th gen Camaros, Chevelles Corvettes and Tri-5s. The Camaro looks brand new and the color combo is a killer. Michael got the Z28 when he was sixteen and he and his father had it fully restored two years later. The Camaro has a GM 350 crated engine, Edlebrock intake and carb, Hookers headers, 2 ½” Flowmasters, 350 trans and 4.10 gears. Sans some chrome engine dress-up parts the rest of the Camaro is original. The red interior was a one year option and very rare. For pictures of the interior go to SAMANTHA GIVING DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS post. In addition to his Camaro and 454 truck, Michael is working on restoring a 1981 turbo-charged Pontac T/A.

Will it be three in-a-row for ACAG and the 1981 Z28 Camaro? I hope so!

HENRY HIGGINS – ELIZA DOOLITTLE – 1,600 HORSE POWER — 2011 S.C.Nats.

Which of the two above titles best go together?

If you picked Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle you aren’t totally wrong. Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle are the two main characters Lerner and Loewe’s iconic Broadway musical My Fair Lady. But hey, AmericanCarsAmericanGirls.com isn’t about Broadway musicals.

If you picked Henry Higgins and 1,600 Horse Power you would be totally right. Pictured we have Henry, wife Sharon and their 1,600hp Chevy. They have 0wned the 1953 Chevy for seventeen years and had a frame off restoration that took five years. The convertible is powered by a blown 588 c.i. big block that makes 1,600hp with a 5sp manual transmisson.

While Henry Higgins can be a fictional character in a Broadway. The real Henry Higgins is a real car guy that did ALL the work himself to make his 1953 Chevy what it is today.

MEGAN WITH A WILD BERRY — 2011 S.C.Nats.

The Wild Berry is actually the Tim Hopper’s very nicely done 1966 Chevelle SS. The Chevelle had a full frame off restoration 13 years ago. Tim wisely chose a Chevy big block and 4 sp combination to power the Chevelle. He also has added an A/C for a little comfort while cursing the the hot southern summers required to ripen a Wild Berry.

ELIZABETH – She Started The Show Off Right — 2011GG

I was able to be at the show for Friday And Saturday. Elizabeth was the first girl I approached when I got to the show on Friday. She was a little hesitant at first but after several minutes of begging and pleading she said OK. After the first few pictures I could see that both of us were please that she had said yes. If I get a gorgeous girl like Elizabeth to pose first thing it takes pressure off for the rest of the show.

Elizabeth is posing with her boyfriends 1967, 327c.i., 350hp, 4sp, factory a/c Corvette Coupe. It appeared to be pretty much all original. You might note the Chevelle lettering on Elizabeth’s shirt. A 1970 Chevelle is the number one car on her wish list..

I Promised ASHLEY — 2011 GG

Ashley was co-running the Grundy Collector Car Insurance Co. booth with Becky, her boss. I promised Ashley that if she take a few minutes a way from the booth to pose for AmericanCarsAmericanGirls.com I would make sure the Grundy name would be prominently shown in at least one picture. I think I more than fulfilled my promise. To most male readers, anyway, the Grundy name is prominently shown in all the pictures.

Unfortunately the owner of the the 1967 Chevelle was not around for me to get any info on the car.

JADE, JADE AND JADE — 2011 Rumble

I was quite taken with Jade. It’s not often that one runs across someone with Jade’s abilities and style. I’ve given her three different posts. In her first post here she is posing with Randy Smelcer’s 1955 Two Lane Blacktop Chevy. The ’55 has a 468 big block, M22Muncie 4sp., and 4.56 gears. Jade had come to the Rumble with her husband and her little Hollywood style dog. The three had come in from Ashville, N.C. They didn’t own a Rat Rod. I’m not sure that they were into Rat Rods as much as Jade was into the Rat Rod style. That’s okay, just as long as she was there.
