I don’t have the time look at every car at a big show like this. Even if I had the time I don’t have the knowledge or experience to judge show cars. After that being said if I had one car I could pick to take home from the 2011 Smoky Mt. Mopar Show it would have been Naylene’s 1968 Charger. I loved everthing about this car. Just look at the pictures.

The first generation of Chargers, the 1966-67 models, were not very good looking cars. The second gerneration, 1968-70 models, did a 180 from the first generation and is one of the best looking Muscle Cars of any brand of any era. The 1969 model was the car of choice for the TV show and later the movie The Dukes of Hazard. Who could forget the General Lee.

Naylene’s 1968 Charger is a 383ci and was restored by Naylene with a little help from dad, Dwight Orr.

Alex “The Car Girl” as I was perusing the internet. It turnes out to be a really good story. Alex’s dad was a big car guy which was instilled into Alex. Alex’s dad died when she was thirteen. After graduating form a high school near Detroit, Alex headed out to California to make her mark. Not long after arriving in California she met Richard. Richard apparently is a huge car guy and because of this he and Alex formed a strong relationship.

The next two paragraphs about Alex are Alex’s own words:

“This led to our forming EZ Detailing, Inc., our filming and selling a DVD on automotive detailing, and soon a line of car care products. We also began a racing team, Team EZ-Detailing, where I drive and Richard is Crew Chief in the Pacific Street Car Association (PSCA), NHRA Summit Series, and West Coast Hot Rods Association (WCHRA) at tracks in Bakersfield and Fontana, California and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Besides cars, bikes and ATVs, my other passions are singing, acting and modeling. I am currently working towards my B.A. as a theater major. I am very serious about singing—you can definitely say that a singing career is my dream. I have been singing since I was quite young, and taking lessons and performing for about 4 years now.

I continue to learn about automotive mechanics and race driving. I look forward to sharing exciting events from my life with you.”

Fast-forward several months and the headlines read:

McFarland, California — August 7, 2011

Alex “The Car Girl” Rogeo Gets First Win in Rookie Season:

Alex Rogeo, aka Alex the Car Girl, topped a tough field in the first win of her rookie season in the West Coast Hot Rod Association’s “Shootout at Sundown” race at Auto Club Famoso Raceway. The EZ-Detailing.com Dodge Magnum claimed the victory in the Sportsman class with solid dial-ins and consistently good reaction times.

You gotta be impressed! We’ll keep you posted!

Rhonda posed with three different cars at the event and did it with a very real flair. Rhonda is pictured here with Bill Howell’s 1972 Dodge Charger. Bill is the originator and owner of RTTH. Bill had more than his hands full running the autocross so he handed over driving duties of his Charger to Mark Owens from Maryville Tn. The lead picture is of Rhonda getting strapped into Bill’s Charger to ride shotgun for Mark. Most autocross drivers like to have someone in the passenger’s seat. It gives the car better balance I’m told.

Bill’s 1972 Charger has gotten a lot of press on the various Pro-Turning car forums. The Charger has a 6.4 liter 540hp Hemi crate engine and TKO-600 5 spd. XV Motosports provided the modern suspension and chassis components. Also included are 14-inch Wilwood brakes,. Forgeline 3-piece, 18-inch wheels and BF Goodrich KDW tires.

Rhonda is from Athens, Tn. and owns the HAIR PLACE. Visit it often.

I approached Ali and her parents as they were taking a quick look at the car show on their way to the main festivity. I had no idea Ali was a celebrity. I ask Ali and Ali’s parents about pictures for AmericanCarsAmericanGirls.com and everyone said ok. After all the pictures were taken did I learn the good news that Ali was the 2010 Smokin the Water’s Miss Firecracker. I also learned that Ali is a student Kingston High School and is all of fifteen years old.

1970 Dodge Challenger T/A 340 6 pack

Ali is posing with Tommy Austin’s very special 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A 340 6 pack. This is a very special and interesting car because 1970-was the only year that the Dodge Challenger T/A was made. Dodge made it in order to race in the Sports Car Club of America’s Trans American Sedan Championship Dodge built a street version of its race car which it called the Dodge Challenger T/A . Although the race cars ran a destroked version of the 340, street versions took the 340 and added a trio of two-barrel carburetors atop an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, creating the 340 Six Pack. Dodge rated the 340 Six Pack at 320 bhp. It breathed air through a suitcase sized air scoop molded into the pinned down, hinged matte-black fiberglass hood. Low-restriction dual exhausts ran to the stock muffler location, then reversed direction to exit in chrome tipped “megaphone” outlets in front of the rear wheels

2008 and 2009 ????, what’s going on? In 2008 I did a fairly good job of covering their show. In 2009 because a competing situation with a Pontiac show and I was not able to give the MOPAR show the time it deserved. So what to do? I combined the two years. Hopefully 2010 will bring better planning from the management of AmericanCarsAmericanGirls.com

The 2008 and 2009 SMOKY MT. MOPAR CLUB’S show was held at the Tennessee Smoky’s stadium parking lot. The stadium is located in the Sevierville/Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge tourist area. The turnout was unexpectedly good as many out of state MOPAR clubs and the Charger Forum people made this their destination for their outing. There was a great representation of every kind of Mopar ever made, even a Dodge ’03 mini-van. The mini-van was mine.

The members of the Smokey Mt. MOPAR Club worked extremely hard and put on a great show, all of the proceeds going to the Wears Valley Ranch ‘’A place to call home for children from families in crisis’’.

The lead picture is of Ailys from the 2009 show. For more pictures of Ailys plus commentary check for her section further down in the story.

The Grande Coupe came standard with leather interior and air conditioning. This particular car has a 383 and a 727 torqueflite transmission.
