2010 RAT ROD RUMBLE

This was my first Rat Rod gig and my first Rumble.gig. The two are synonymous .and are the total antithesis of any other car event I’ve ever attended. It would be impossible for me to define in words what a Rat Rod is but the pictures make it clear. The only criteria for the show are: pre 1965 vehicles and no trailer queens. I saw no trailers or even a sign of a trailer and all vehicles certainly were clearly pre 1965. The Rumble is an annual event held at the 411 Raceway in Seymour Tn. The 1/8^th mile drag strip was one the amenities the Raceway had to offer. The Rat Rod guys wore it out.

AMBER: The RAT ROD RUMBLE’S official FLAG GIRL

When I approached Amber about taking some pictures I thought she was just another gorgeous girl. As it turned out she was a celebrity; the Rumble’s Official Flag Girl. The actual flag duties were handled by an official of the 411 Raceway and Amber just walked around looking hooooooot!! Amber’s listed her home town as Spring Hill, Tn. and occupation as gold analyist??.

DANIEL and his 1953 BUICK SPECIAL Daily Driver

Yep you read it right; this is Daniel’s day in day out transportation. It took Daniel six months of blood sweat and tears to get it on the road. The frame was built by Daniel. It has a custom front sub frame mated with a rear frame from a 1974 C-10 Chevy pickup. The drive train uses a 350 Chevy with the C-10 providing the transmission, drive shaft and rear end. The suspension consists of air bags at all four corners. Daniel says it cruises down the interstate just fine at 80 mph.

Please do not confuse Burlesque with strip. A Burlesque show is much more theatrical and leaves some things to the imagination. The four White Lightnin Burlesque girls were at the Rumble with friends and to promote their upcoming Knoxville show. Their stage names, in no particular order are: Miz Kitty, Cherry Delight, Strawberry Tallcake, and Sassy Frassy. As you read their articles match a stage name to a girl. The results are in the Answer paragraph. The ladies were so much fun and an absolute hoot.

The way I look at it Roy owes me. If I hadn’t been there no way would Roy would have had that much fun. But then again I probably owe Roy. His 1938 Ford was my inspiration to go ahead to ask the White Lightin girls for their help. The Rod was originally a four door that has been chopped 4’’, channeled 6’’, and shortened 20’’. A 1948 Chevy truck hood was pinched 10’’ and a dirt track car nose gives this Rat Rod its distinctive look. The Rod is powered by a Chevy 350 c.i. and four speed transmission.

The thing I love about Hannah is her look is much more Vogue than Rat Rod, a great contrast. Hannah was at the Rumble with her husband and other members of the Bootleggers.
