1981 Z28 Camaro

It’s a first for ACAG. We covered the same car two years in a row. It’s pretty easy to do. Michael Payne’s 1981 Z28 Camaro is just so nice. It stands out even among all the 1st and 5th gen Camaros, Chevelles Corvettes and Tri-5s. The Camaro looks brand new and the color combo is a killer. Michael got the Z28 when he was sixteen and he and his father had it fully restored two years later. The Camaro has a GM 350 crated engine, Edlebrock intake and carb, Hookers headers, 2 ½” Flowmasters, 350 trans and 4.10 gears. Sans some chrome engine dress-up parts the rest of the Camaro is original. The red interior was a one year option and very rare. Will it be three in-a-row for ACAG and the 1981 Z28 Camaro? I hope so!

1981 Z28 Camaro

It was the break of DAWN and she was Ready

Dawn was one of the more willing and able AmericanGirls. She’s posing with John Henery’s 1981 Camaro. Things got a little fuzzy for me because I thought that she said her husband was back in North Carolina but she and Jim seemed awfully tight. Dawn and John are from Hayesville N.C. where Dawn is a teacher and John runs a Linex shop. I love the 1981 Camaro just because it was a little different. The Camaro is running a 355 c.i. small block with 350 turbo transmission. The rear Rally wheels are original wheels that measure 15’’ x 10’’. A three inch spacer had been welded in.

Michael Payne’s 1981 Z28 Camaro

Michael is from Elizabethton, Tn. In his own words is a brief history of his Camaro. “I started building on the Camaro when I was sixteen and got is it done when I was eighteen. It is a fully restored. It is 1 of 500 built with rare interior and rear end gear ratios. It has been featured in many magazines and won multiple awards”.
