2011 FORMULA 1 SEASON – I’VE GOT A DOG IN THIS FIGHT

 

I’ve wanted to do an AmericianCarAmericanGirl.com story on F1 for a while but couldn’t find any American connection. After checking the results for the initial F1 race of the 2011 season it hit me like a Thunderbolt (HTC): The AT&T Williams’ team versus my dog the Vodafone McLaren team

Ok here’s how it goes. AT&T is AT&T archrivals of Verizon Wireless. Vodafone is the second largest cellular company in the world trailing only the state- run cellular company of the People’s Republic of China. More importantly Vodafone owns a 45% of the stock of Verizon Wireless. The company I work for is Cellular Sales who is the largest Authorized Premium Verizon Wireless retailer in the United States. Cellular Sales currently have 400 stores in 15 states and expanding at a very quick pace.

 For me it won’t matter who won or lost at a Formula 1 race. It’s who does better,  the AT&T Williams team or the Cellular Sales Vodafone McLaren team. We will compare the teams, drivers and the drivers’ girlfriends/ wives to see who has the better team.

 Engines for the F1 cars must be 2.4 liter naturally aspirated V8s. The engine makes approximately 780 bhp and uses gasoline similar to which is available at your local gas pump. The engines run at an astounding 18,000 rpm and use oil which has a viscosity similar to water. Each driver can use no more than eight engines during a season. That means an engine must last two  races which includes the practice and qualifying. Formula 1 cars weigh in at 1,367 lbs and have cornering abilities of 2.5 g. The F1 car is the most sophisticated and technically advanced car in the world.

 There are nineteen races during the season that goes from March thru October at venues throughout the world. The race in Bahrain should be very interesting this year with all the uprisings in the different Muslim countries. An American F1 race is scheduled for the 2012 season at the new race facilities in Austin, Tx. Most of the teams are headquartered in Great Britain.

Update: The Bahrain race has been cancelled because of civil unrest.

There are pit babes and grid girls. Pit Babes know somebody on the team and just hang around the pits. Grid Girls have various pageant type duties connected with the race during the weekend. What they all have in common is that they all are gorgeous.

Silvana is Brazilian born and has been married to Rubens since 1997. She is a cousin of Brazilian Indy Racing League driver Felipe Giaffone and a niece of the Stock Car Brazil champions, Affonso Giaffone Filho and Zeca Giaffone. Silvana and Rubens’s two sons are going to be hardwired for racing.
